Got dancing feet? Summer Concerts are the place to be

Chapman University’s Free Family Friendly Summer Concert Series kicked off with a blast Friday evening as The Nocturnes filled the Attallah Piazza with the nostalgic tunes of classic surf rock. Hundreds of concert-goers came out for the event, munched on hot dogs and churros and caught at least a few little splashing waves in the Halfacre Fountain.

The series continues every Friday evening through Aug. 19. Up this week is AlterEgo, one of the hottest rhythm and blues bands playing the local club scene, the Orange County Fair and The Galaxy Concert Theatre, so get ready to dance.

As always, picnics, lawn chairs and blankets (but no grills!) are welcome, and free parking will be available in the Lastinger Parking Structure. The campus opens for picnicking at 4:30 p.m. on concert days, and all concerts kick off at 5:30 p.m.

Here’s the lineup – See you there!

  • Friday, Aug. 5, AlterEgo, classic Rock and R&B sounds.
  • Friday, Aug. 12, Southland Mega Groove, a tribute to California music, from “I Love L.A.” to “Hotel California.”
  • Friday, Aug. 19, the Alley Cats, back by popular demand, the talented and humorous doo-wop a cappella group that invites audience participation, appealing to young and old alike.
