Planet Suite will be among the Carson Gladson works exhibited in Guggenheim Gallery.

The art of Chapman University alumnus Carson Gladson ’61 (a member of this year’s 50 Year Club, made up of those who graduated from Chapman a half-century ago) will be featured in a retrospective exhibition of his works from the past 50 years at the Guggenheim Gallery, from June 12 through July 14, with an opening reception Sunday, June 12 from 3 to 5 p.m. The reception is open to the public.

Well known for his sensitive portrayals of nature, Carson Gladson started painting at a young age in Oakland, Calif. He entered Chapman University, then known as Chapman College, in 1959, where he received his bachelor’s degree in fine art. After receiving his M.A. from California State University and going on to additional graduate coursework at UCLA, Gladson received an assistant professorship at California State University, Northridge. In 1973, he became a professor of art at El Camino College.

Gladson’s work is part of the permanent collections of the Oakland Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and Long Beach Museum of Art.  His art is part of both corporate and private collections, including the Fluor Corporation; Neiman Marcus; AT&T; Toyota; Price Waterhouse; Cannell and Chaffin; Gibbson, Dunn and Crutcher; Weyerhaeuser; Rutan and Tucker; Loeb and Loeb; Warner Brothers; Welton Becket; General Mills; UCLA School of Business; Chapman University; Port of Long Beach and the California Association of Realtors.  In addition there are a number of hotels in Los Angeles and nationally that display Gladson’s work, including The Sofitel, Sheraton, Hilton, Westin, Radisson, Marriott, Beverly Wilshire Hotel and the Beverly Hills Hotel.

The exhibition will feature recent paintings in the main gallery and selections from older bodies of work in the Project Room.  An essay by Vanessa K. DeCarbo about the artist’s work accompanies the exhibit.

The exhibition is part of Chapman University’s 150
