Asian studies in changing world to be topic of keynote at open house

Chapman University’s new interdisciplinary Asian studies minor within Wilkinson College of Humanities and Social Sciences will be officially welcomed at a Wednesday, April 27 open house.

The event, “Asian Studies in the 21st Century,” will also include a keynote talk by a leading Asian studies scholar and author, Jeffrey Wasserstrom, Ph.D. The open house begins at 3 p.m. in Beckman 404 East Wing with welcoming remarks by Patrick Quinn, Ph.D., dean of Wilkinson College, followed by student poster presentations and a description of the new Asian studies minor.

The keynote address, “Asian Studies in an Era of Shape-Shifting Disciplines and a Fast-Changing World Order,” will be given by author and UC Irvine professor of history
Jeffrey Wasserstrom
, Ph.D., followed by a panel discussion with Chapman’s Asian studies faculty.

Dr. Wasserstrom is a specialist in Chinese history. He has published eight books and routinely writes commentaries and reviews for
Time, Newsweek, The Nation, Foreign Policy, Los Angeles Times
and the
New York Times
. In addition, he serves as editor of
Journal of Asian Studies.
