Along with the music of Verdi and Strauss, there will be a reunion mood in the air when Opera Chapman performs this weekend at Chapman University.

Several alumni of the College of Performing Arts are returning to campus as guest performers in “An Opera Gala,” with performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, and Saturday, April 2, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 3.

Among the alumni performers are Ernest Alvarez ’02, Robert MacNeil ’93, Courtney Taylor ‘03 and Harrison Zierer ’10. Artists-in-Residence faculty members also performing are Milena Kitic and Carol Neblett. Friday’s performance will feature Kitic, Neblett and MacNeil; Saturday’s Taylor, Kitic and MacNeil; and Sunday’s Neblett, Alvarez and possibly Kitic.

In celebration of Chapman’s 150th Anniversary, the program features two of the great party scenes in the operatic repertoire — the Act 2 Finale from Verdi’s master work, La Traviata and Act 2 of Johann Strauss’ beloved Die Fledermaus.

Opera Chapman is directed by Peter Atherton, D.M.A., the Robert and Norma Lineberger Endowed Chair in Music, associate professor, and director of operatic studies. Conducting will be Daniel Alfred Wachs, assistant professor, Music Director and Director of Instrumental Studies, Chapman University Orchestras.

Tickets are $15 to $20. For more information, call 714-997-6871.
