will open
Chapman University’s
Global Entrepreneurship Week 2010 Thursday afternoon with a talk titled “The Next Generation Businessperson: Observations on the effects of the new normal on the workplace and the workforce.”

The talk kicks off a special week largely aimed at students, but which also calls attention to Chapman University’s
nationally ranked entrepreneurial program
.

“The goal of the week is to stimulate students’ interest in considering entrepreneurship as an option,” says P. K. Shukla, Ph.D., Director of the Leatherby Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics at Chapman University. “What’s happened is that a lot of the students who are the ages of our juniors and seniors have seen their parents downsized, laid off, or had their jobs threatened, even if they weren’t laid off. A lot of students have lost that old corporate loyalty that existed 20, 30 years ago.”

For many of this generation, entrepreneurship will be a leading career choice, Shukla said.

A host of events will continue into next week, including:

  • “Around the Entrepreneurial World in 80 minutes” (Part 1), 11:30 a.m. to 12:50 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 16, Beckman Hall 213; looks at business opportunities in India, Dubai, Brazil, Vietnam, France, Thailand, Japan and Spain.
  • “Around the Entrepreneurial World in 80 minutes” (Part 2), 8:30 to 9:50 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 18, Beckman Hall 105; looks at business opportunities in China, Russia, Brazil, France, New Zealand, South Africa, German and Greece.
  •  “Small Entrepreneurial Organizations Provide Big Employment Opportunities,” a discussion led by alumnae and Ph.D. student in the College of Education Science, Monica Shukla.

Global Entreprenuership Week is an international week founded by the
Kauffman Foundation of Entrepreneurship
. Additional sponsors of the week’s events at Chapman University include Students in Free Enterprise and the Career Development Center.
