President Doti conquers Boston to Big Sur challenge

Big Sur Marathon, the second half of the famed Boston 2 Big Sur Challenge.

Only the fittest runners attempt two marathons within six days of each other, 3,000 miles apart, on challenging courses with wrenching hill climbs.

Now who around Chapman might be game for such a challenge?

That’s right, this spring President James Doti completed the famous “Boston 2 Big Sur Challenge.” The event dares the best runners to run the Boston Marathon and then lace up again within days for the Big Sur Marathon. This year the Boston and Big Sur marathons were April 19 and April 25, respectively, giving runners less than a week to regroup.

A familiar name at Mile 1.

More than 4,000 runners entered the Big Sur Marathon, which
Runners World
magazine recently listed as one of the world’s best marathons, but only 400 of the runners at Big Sur were completing the tandem challenge, President Doti among them.

Check out President Doti’s slide shows of both runs. He offers terrific views of some of the lighter fun that plays out along a marathon course, and the

are especially stunning, with vistas of that great California coastline. The

makes us wonder if there will be a rash of Boston College transfers coming soon to Chapman. And there are more at the president’s

 page.
