Commencements — yes, plural this year

Jack Eseltine, the 1-year old son of Traci (Blalock) Eseltine ’05, has the right hat for marching on Commencement Weekend.

An impressive roster of speakers is lined up for Chapman’s first graduation season that features separate commencement ceremonies at each of the schools.

Baccalaureate launches the weekend ceremonies and will be held Friday, May 21, at 4 p.m. at Fish Interfaith Center. Speakers are Gail Brewer of the 50 Year Club, and Angela Wilhite, ’10, Leadership and Organization Studies.

Scheduled speakers at the individual commencements include:

  • Parker Bush, Bachelor of Arts in Economics Candidate and recipient of the 2010 Cheverton Award, for Argyros School of Business and Economics, May 21, 8:15 p.m. Wilson Field;
  • Martin Benson, Artistic Director and Co-founder, South Coast Repertory, for College of Performing Arts, May 22, 8 a.m.,  Bert Williams Mall;
  • The Hon. Loretta L. Sanchez ’82, member of the U.S. House of Representatives, for Wilkinson College of Humanities and Social Sciences May 22, 9:15 a.m., Holly and David Wilson Field;
  • Linda Darling-Hammond, Ph.D., Charles Ducommon Professor of Education, Stanford University, for College of Educational Studies, May 22, 10:45 a.m., Bert Williams Mall;
  • Nicolaos Alexopoulos, Ph.D., Vice President for Antenna and RF Research and University Relations at Broadcom Corporation, Irvine, Recipient of honorary Doctor of Science, for Schmid College of Science, May 22, 4:30 p.m., Bert Williams Mall;
  • Tony Bill, producer, Barnstorm Films, and director and Academy-Award winning co-producer of The Sting, for Dodge College, May 22, 6:30 p.m., Holly and David Wilson Field.
