Softball team eager to debut new home

The Chapman women’s softball team will try again this week to inaugurate its new home field with games at El Camino Real Park, 400 N. Main St. in Orange. Alas, rain washed out Saturday’s dedication ceremony and a scheduled doubleheader with Whittier College. The Panthers are scheduled to play a doubleheader Tuesday (Feb. 9) against La Verne, beginning at 4 p.m., with an alumni game Saturday (Feb. 13) at noon. As the city of Orange completes its renovation of four fields at El Camino Real Park, Chapman enjoys a lease agreement for primary use of the “premiere” diamond, which includes permanent fencing, batting cages, bullpens and a scoreboard. Previously the Panthers played at Hart Park in Orange.
