Snow much fun!

After a week of winter storms, Mark Nolasco of Facilities and  his son Reagan, 12, spent a weekend backpacking above 9,000 feet in the San Jacinto Wilderness Area.

They went up on Jan. 23 (Saturday) and were at the top of the tram by 9:30 a.m. ” We hiked into Tamarack Valley and stopped for lunch then over to Round Valley to set up camp for the night. With more than 5  feet of new snow, the whole trek was with snowshoes and we cut fresh trails in the powder with the use of a map and compass. A bit cool at night as the temp went down to 3 degrees but it was a lot of fun. We dug a protected area for our tent and cooking. In the morning we woke to ‘blue bird’ skis and the sound of ice breaking from the trees.”

Jude was ready for the rain!

Rainproof pooch

Anabelle Cabrera, system support analyst with IS&T, sent in this pic of Jude, her Bichon Frise, during the recent rains.  “He had his little raincoat every time he went out,” she said.
