Dr. Tibor Machan

Barron’s magazine has published an essay by Tibor Machan, Ph.D., professor and holder of the R.C. Hoiles Chair in Business Ethics and Free Enterprise at the Argyros School of Business and Economics. In the essay, titled Profit: the Right Standard for Business, Dr. Machan raises a warning flag against “the corporate social responsibility movement,” which he says threatens to pull business managers’ from their primary duty to companies and stockholders.”

Machan writes: “If they do their business well, corporate managers do serve all the members of society with whom they do business, dealing with customers and suppliers through mutually beneficial exchanges of money, goods and services. This is the natural outcome of seeking to make profits.”

The complete story can be read in the print edition and in
Barron’s
paid online version for subscribers.
