Some of the more than 2,000 tons of steel that will become the frame of Chapman University’s new Center for Science and Technology arrived at the construction site today. The delivery of the first steel girders onto a job is a big day in the life of a building in progress, said Parrish Dyer, senior project manager for Abacus Project Management.
“It’s a critical milestone for the project,” Dyer said.
As delivery trucks pulled up to the site, a 300-ton truck-mounted crane unloaded the beams. By afternoon, several rows of steel were already taking shape in the first framing. Check out the progress on the construction webcam.
When the $130 million center is complete it will be the University’s largest and most expensive facility ever constructed. The 2.25-acre complex will house the Schmid College of Science and Technology and include two halls — the Hall of Science and the Hall of Technology and Engineering.
