Tabula Poetica: The Center for Poetry
at Chapman University will welcome Pulitzer Prize-finalist Alan Shapiro to campus on Thursday, Oct. 6, for an afternoon poetry reading and evening poetry talk. The talk will be at 1 p.m. in the Fish Interfaith Center, the reading at 4 p.m. in the Henley Room at Leatherby Libraries.
Shapiro has published many poetry collections, most recently
Reel to Reel,
a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, and
Night of the Republic,
a finalist for the National Book Award.
He has published four books of prose, including
The Last Happy Occasion,
a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, and
Broadway Baby,
a novel. He won the Kingsley Tufts Award, LA Times Book Prize, and an award in literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
The series will continue with a Thursday, Dec. 1, talk and reading by poet and author Elline Lipkin. Times and locations will be the same as for the Shapiro events. The series will close with a Thursday, Dec. 15, MFA Reading at 4 p.m. in the Fish Interfaith Center.
