On Tuesday, August 17, Marvin Meyer, Ph.D., Griset Chair in Bible and Christian Studies and chair of the Department of Religious Studies, will appear on the History Channel premiere of Gates of Hell. The show is an exploration of traditions of Hell and Hades from antiquity to the present.
“The producers of the show said that when they thought of Hell, my name immediately came to mind,” Meyer said. “I’m not sure whether that was a compliment or an insult.”
Meyer traveled with members of the production company to Parga in Northern Greece and the Diros Caverns in the Mani Peninsula of Southern Greece to do the filming.
“The visual impact of the show should be stunning,” Meyer remarked. “It should be a helluva show.”
The program will air from 8 to 10 p.m. on the History Channel.
Will it be possible to get this online after it airs? I don’t have History Channel.
The History Channel does post videos and some full episodes at http://www.history.com after their shows air. Some History Channel specials also are later released on DVD. In addition, Hulu and YouTube might be sources for segments of the show.
