Summer concert series kicks off Friday — how cool is that?

Good news. That blast of heat that turned us into a whiney bunch last weekend isn’t coming back soon – we know because we checked the snazzy Chapman weather feed  – BUT Chapman University’s annual Family Concert Series is back and opens Friday with “The Answer,” a celebrated Southern California classic rock ‘n’ roll band.

Enjoy hits like “Brick House,” “Old-Time Rock ‘n’ Roll” and that summer concert standard, “Smooth” by Santana. The concert kicks off at 5:30 p.m., but the piazza opens for picnicking at 4:30 p.m. And it’s just the start of the summer coolness. The series continues with Paperback Writer, a Beatles tribute band, Aug. 6, and The Alley Cats, a doo-wop group back by popular demand for a third straight year, Aug. 13.

So we have swell weather and an evening of classic rock from one of the most popular bands ever to play Disneyland in a great outdoor setting with free admission and all the lemonade and popcorn you could want. No more whining. Just sayin.’
