From student journalist to proud parent, Paula Yakubik ’94 continues giving back to the university that shaped her life.

For Paula Yakubik ’94, Chapman has always felt like family, and now that connection spans generations.

As a student, she found a sense of belonging through close faculty mentorship and lifelong friendships. A sorority sister and editor of The Panther newspaper, she worked closely with Professor Susan Paterno, who taught her how to be a strong reporter and researcher. The two even traveled to Cuba together—an experience Paula still calls “the trip of a lifetime.”

“When I started at Chapman, I thought I’d go to law school,” Paula said. “But through my classes, I discovered that I loved telling stories. It changed my life.”

That discovery launched a successful career in journalism, public relations, and advertising. It also launched a lifelong commitment to giving back to her alma mater.

“Chapman is very close to my heart,” Paula said. “I fund a scholarship and give when I’m able and as much as I’m able. I love this school and want to see it succeed.”

Her daughter recently joined her as a proud Panther alum, and her son is a junior in the Argyros College. Watching them thrive at the same university that shaped her own life has made Paula’s Chapman bond even stronger.

“My daughter’s experience at Chapman was amazing,” Paula said. “She was very close to her professors, and I could not be more proud of her.”

For Paula, supporting Chapman is a way to ensure future students experience the same personal connection and opportunities that shaped her and her family.

“It feels amazing to give back to the school that shaped my life,” she reflected. “It feels good to dedicate yourself to something so important.”
