Chapman’s spirit of care continues to inspire his leadership, philanthropy, and pride as an alum.

For Steven Babiak ’15, Chapman University isn’t just a place—it’s home.

From his first days on campus, Steven found himself surrounded by people who cared. Whether it was classmates offering encouragement, professors who took time to listen, or mentors who believed in his potential, Chapman became a place where he always felt supported.

“My favorite thing about Chapman is that it truly became, and still is, a second home for me,” Steven shared. “This support system gave me the confidence to try new things and grow, knowing that if I faltered, there was a foundation of love and care to help me recover.”

That confidence fueled countless experiences that shaped his life. As a founding father of a fraternity, Steven learned to lead and build community. As a Resident Advisor, he supported fellow Partners through challenges big and small—whether resolving minor roommate disagreements or helping my residents navigate major mental health challenges.”

“Serving as an RA was the most impactful part of my Chapman Experience,” he said. “My RA training taught me how to understand and support those around me, which allowed me to make a real difference in my residents’ lives—one even said I saved his life. What could be more meaningful than that?”

He also participated in the Argyros College’s “Walk Down Wall Street” travel course. Steven connected classroom learning with real-world insights, meeting alumni in top finance firms and gaining inspiration for his own career.

“Bonding and learning from my classmates, alumni, and the dean was an incredibly special opportunity, which reflects the personalized education Chapman offers.”

After graduation, Steven carried that spirit of connection forward. He now serves on the Alumni Association Board of Directors, mentors students through the Panther Network, is a proud member of the Charles C. Chapman Legacy Society, and volunteers regularly at university events.

“For me, staying involved is a privilege,” he said. “Chapman is a second home, and I truly believe I get more out of my volunteering than I could ever give back.”

That gratitude is also why Steven gives to the Chapman Fund.

“My greatest hope is that my gift helps Chapman feel like a home for future generations, just as it does for me,” he reflected. “I benefited from the generosity of those who came before me, and it’s an honor to pay it forward for the next generation of Panthers.”

Steven’s pride in Chapman continues to grow as the university’s reputation rises, new programs flourish, and the community spirit remains strong.

“Chapman is now gaining the recognition it deserves,” he said. “But what makes me proudest is that the heart of Chapman—the care, the warmth, the sense of belonging—has never changed.”
