At the opening of a special evening program at Musco Center for the Arts, Chapman University President Matt Parlow presented the first major honor of his presidency: the C. C. Chapman Distinguished Service Award. This esteemed recognition has been given only 10 times in the last 46 years and is reserved for those whose extraordinary dedication and leadership have shaped the university in meaningful and lasting ways. Chapman proudly recognized Julianne Argyros and Ambassador George Argyros for their transformational contributions to the institution.
Before presenting the award, President Parlow addressed the audience with heartfelt remarks that reflected the profound importance of the moment. He described the remarkable impact the Argyros family has had on the institution across generations.
“George and Julianne Argyros’ vision and generosity transformed this university,” President Parlow stated. “Their support elevated our business school into one of the nation’s best, and now, into the Argyros College of Business and Economics. Their leadership set a standard that continues to inspire us all.”
The Argyros’ influence means more than buildings, spaces, or public recognition. President Parlow emphasized the human stories shaped by the family’s generosity. “Their influence extends far beyond the buildings that bear their name. It lives in the opportunities they have made possible, in the students who have found their purpose here, and in the future they continue to help us build.”

The Argyros legacy of Chapman support continues through the next generation. Lisa Argyros’ contributions reflect both a deep respect for her parents and her own commitment to student success. Lisa is a proud Chapman alumna, a dedicated trustee, and an engaged member of our Chapman Family. She has served in numerous leadership roles, from the Board of Governors to the Executive Committee for Chapman Celebrates, and continues to guide our progress as a member of both the Board of Trustees and our Real Estate Executive Advisory Council.
President Parlow recognized her leadership during his comments. He highlighted that Lisa’s service is not only an extension of her family’s legacy but also an example of her own forward-looking vision for Chapman’s future.
“When the Argyros School marked its 20th anniversary in 2019, Lisa chaired the celebration, honoring her father’s extraordinary impact while ensuring that the school he had built would continue to thrive,” he noted. “Her commitment reflects not only deep family pride but a personal passion for Chapman’s future for our students, our faculty, and the community we serve together.”
Since its creation, the C. C. Chapman Distinguished Service Award has recognized a select group of visionary leaders whose contributions have helped guide the university through periods of transformative growth. The Argyros commitment certainly stands among the most influential, shaping a legacy that will continue to elevate Chapman for generations to come.
