A single campus tour was all it took for Allison “Ally” Lentz ’13 to know that Chapman University was where she belonged. During her four years as a Panther, she gained more than just an education—she built confidence, embraced teamwork, and learned the value of being part of a global community. That passion led her to a career in philanthropy at the CHOC Foundation, where she now helps others create meaningful impact through giving.

“My favorite part of being a Chapman Panther is knowing that once you’re a Panther, you’re always a Panther,” Lentz shared. “No matter where I go, I know I’m part of a supportive, thought-provoking and inspiring community. That brings my heart boundless pride and joy.”

That deep connection to Chapman has fueled Lentz’s unwavering commitment to giving back. Since 2019, she has served on Chapman’s Alumni Association Board of Directors, forming lifelong friendships and staying engaged with the university. As her term ends this spring, her dedication will continue—she is also a member of Chapman’s Board of Governors, ensuring her impact endures.

Lentz’s passion for philanthropy is rooted in her family’s history. She grew up hearing the story of a kind stranger whose generosity allowed her grandfather to complete college, changing the course of her grandparents’ lives. That single act of kindness became the foundation for something much greater—the Swenson Family Foundation, which has since dedicated itself to supporting higher education and other causes nationwide, including health and wellness.

The Swenson Family Foundation has already made a lasting mark at Chapman, including its generous gift to name the Swenson Family Hall of Engineering in the Keck Center for Science and Engineering. With this gift, the Foundation aims to empower engineering students and others by helping them realize their dreams, enrich their education, and prepare for successful careers in engineering and technology.

Now, Lentz and the Foundation are extending their impact with a $41,000 gift to the Women of Chapman Student Hardship Assistance Fund, which provides critical assistance to students experiencing unforeseen challenges, helping with housing, food, medical expenses, transportation and even emergency travel during family crises.

“We are thankful to Ally and the Swenson Family Foundation for their incredible generosity, which will support students during difficult times,” said Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Jerry Price. “For many students, this financial assistance is crucial for their ability to remain in school.”

For Lentz, supporting the Women of Chapman Student Hardship Assistance Fund was an easy decision and one that can help students thrive in the face of adversity.

“I feel immense pride in giving back—not only as an alum but as someone who humbly carries forward the legacy of generosity that changed my grandparents’ lives,” Lentz shared. “To follow in their footsteps and support Chapman students in their time of need is a profound honor.”

Join Lentz and the Swenson Family Foundation in making a difference. Your gift, regardless of size, helps ensure that every Chapman student has the support they need to thrive.
