How to Help Support Wildfire Relief Efforts

As we continue to track the Los Angeles wildfires, which have affected some of our own, we are providing information on how you can help, should you be interested and inclined to do so.

  • Please refer to the state of California’s official website on this matter (refer to the “How can I help?” section).
  • The American Red Cross is a standard bearer in emergency relief, and interested individuals can visit its website to learn more. In addition, there are several college-specific funds that are available to support the higher education community:
  • On campus, we are partnering with the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles. Donations can be made on Thursday, Jan. 16, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the canopies in the Sandhu Conference Center Lot (521 N. Center St., Orange Campus).
    • According to the YMCA, only the following items can be dropped off on campus at that time and location:
      • Folding tables
      • Diapers
      • Toilet paper
      • Non-perishable food/snacks
      • School supplies
      • Cleaning supplies
      • Trash bags
    • The above listed items can be dropped off at the Sandhu Conference Center Lot. You may drive there for a quick unloading so that we can enable a steady traffic flow (see map below).
    • Donations of clothing, shoes, towels, sheets or any open/used products cannot be accepted, per the YMCA.
    • Chapman will take responsibility for transporting all collected items to L.A. Thursday afternoon.
As a reminder, there are numerous Chapman resources available to assist our own community members as well.
We will continue to keep you updated. In the meantime, we appreciate your caring and community mindedness and wish you safety and health.
