Under his guidance, Chapman’s ranking in U.S. News & World Report soared.

During his 50 years at Chapman University, President Emeritus Jim Doti’s leadership shaped the university’s history and fueled its remarkable growth from a small, regional institution to a nationally ranked university of distinction.

Under his guidance, Chapman’s ranking in U.S. News & World Report soared, and its student selectivity improved dramatically. A dedicated economist, Doti also founded the A. Gary Anderson Center for Economic Research, which has produced highly accurate economic forecasts for decades. From 2004 to 2021, Chapman’s real GDP forecasts were more accurate than the forecasts issued by all 30 agencies participating in the Blue Chip Economic Indicators surveys.

Doti’s contributions to academia and his community have been recognized with numerous honors. He is a recipient of the Horatio Alger Award and the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
