Chapman University hosted the second annual Mujeres Achieving Success (MAS) Conference in partnership with Fullerton College. The event aimed to inspire young women of color to pursue higher education and equip them with the necessary tools for success in college and beyond. This year, the conference welcomed more than 850 high school students from across Orange County.
“The Mujeres Achieving Success Conference is an important event that promotes higher education in our local community,” said Gabriela Castaneda, assistant vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion and director for Hispanic and Latinx achievement at Chapman University. “We are proud to be able to host the conference on our beautiful campus, highlighting the importance of diverse perspectives and cultures and promoting lifelong learning.”
The conference featured a range of workshops covering topics including career exploration, personal finances, overcoming challenges and goal setting, and featured a keynote address by Rebecca Rivera, M.D., a renowned specialist in obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Rivera, director of minimally invasive gynecology surgery at Kern Medical Hospital, shared her expertise and inspired the next generation of professionals with her journey and insights.
“Through this conference, we inspire the next generation of women leaders to embark on an exciting educational journey,” added Castaneda. “A journey that will prepare and empower them to meet challenges with grit and knowledge while increasing their ability to impact our communities positively. We believe it is important for all these young women to see themselves as future Panthers.”
Events like the MAS Conference play a vital role in empowering youth and dismantling obstacles to higher education. Through mentorship, guidance and exposure to accomplished professionals like Dr. Rivera, young women are equipped with resources necessary for their success.
