Chapman University has again been named one of the nation’s best universities for undergraduate teaching while also rising two spots on the U.S News & World Report’s list of Best National Universities, according to the publication’s 2022 rankings of American institutions of higher education.

In the latest rankings released Monday, Sept. 13, Chapman claimed the No. 122 place in the national listing. In addition, it rose to No. 37 in the nation for Best Undergraduate Teaching, jumped to No. 73 in the Best Colleges for Veterans list and rose to No. 57 in the category of Most Innovative Schools.

‘Excellence in Research and Teaching Continues to Grow’

Evaluators review thoroughly vetted academic data and reliable third-party sources and consider more than 15 measures of academic quality to develop the rankings, including peer universities’ assessments. Reviewers evaluated nearly 400 institutions.

“Chapman University’s excellence in research and teaching continues to grow. These rankings reflect our achievements as a nationally ranked university where impactful research and undergraduate education thrive together, each informing the other as we prepare the next generation of leaders. We are proud to continue to earn the respect and validation of our peers,” said Chapman President Daniele C. Struppa.

The high marks are a credit to Chapman’s faculty and the university’s unflagging dedication to state-of-the-art teaching, said Chapman Provost Norma Bouchard.

“Chapman’s exceptional ranking in undergraduate teaching underscores the university’s commitment to its mission of providing personalized education. Throughout the pandemic, our faculty continued to make outstanding teaching their priority. These aims are foundational to our mission and we take pride in this recognition of our excellent teaching and innovative classroom experiences.”

High Marks From Princeton Review

The U.S. News rankings come on the heels of other recent honors. Princeton Review’s newly released lists included Chapman in “The Best 387 Colleges” guidebook for 2022, giving particular praise for its technology, Southern California location and supportive faculty.

The schools selected for “The Best 387 Colleges” are based on student surveys, but Chapman earned accolades in two categories:

  • Chapman is on the regional list of “Best Western” colleges.
  • Chapman Radio again made the roster of Best College Radio Stations.

In August, the university’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts was named the fourth best film school in the nation by The Hollywood Reporter. It’s Dodge’s highest-ever national ranking in The Hollywood Reporter’s highly anticipated annual rankings. Chapman moved up two places to No. 4 out of 25 schools featured.
