2/6 Join the Hilbert Museum of California Art Volunteer Docent Program

Do you love art? Do you love storytelling? Do you love talking about art? The Hilbert Museum of California Art is currently seeking volunteer docents.

Join us on Thursday, Feb. 6 and learn how you can be a part of this dynamic volunteer team that helps provide information, tours and presentations to visitors and groups at the Hilbert Museum.

The Hilbert Museum’s Volunteer Docent program is open to all Chapman University faculty and staff and also to spouses, partners, friends and family members of Chapman faculty and staff. If you know someone among your family or local friends that might be interested in this volunteer opportunity, please let them know.

Information on Volunteer Docent Program

Docents must be available to volunteer Tuesdays-Saturdays within the hours of 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and at some evening events, on a regular schedule that fits yours, with a time commitment of at least 8 hours per month.

Our visitors include community members, out of state and international visitors, university special guests, social and service clubs, artist societies, seniors’ organizations, K-12 students, community youth groups, community organizations, and Chapman University classes – among others.

Duties of Hilbert Museum docents include giving tours, helping to man the museum front desk and information desk, and being on the museum floor to greet patrons and answer questions. No art, teaching or previous experience required – we’re looking for friendly, articulate, outgoing individuals who love learning about art and sharing that information with others.

Perks of being a docent include continuing art education opportunities, special curator-led tours of Hilbert exhibitions before they open to the public, reserved seats at all Hilbert special programs (lectures, concerts, etc.), and the chance to serve our museum guests and work with a group of dedicated colleagues!

We invite you to come and explore how your interests and experiences can add to this exciting program that will deliver art and museum education in association with the outstanding Hilbert Museum collection and exhibitions, to enhance the lives and experiences of students and residents of our surrounding communities.
