Minimum Wage Increase: Important Information for Hiring Supervisors

Effective on January 1, 2020, minimum wage increased from $12.00 to $13.00 per hour. Accordingly, all student employees at Chapman University whose hourly rate was below $13.00 per hour have been adjusted to the current minimum wage amount.

The minimum wage amount in the State of California is on a schedule to increase annually until January 1, 2022 when it will be $15.00 per hour.

The schedule is:

  • From Jan. 1, 2019, to Dec. 31, 2019: twelve dollars ($12) per hour.
  • From Jan. 1, 2020, to Dec. 31, 2020: thirteen dollars ($13) per hour.
  • From Jan. 1, 2021, to Dec. 31, 2021: fourteen dollars ($14) per hour.
  • From Jan. 1, 2022: fifteen dollars ($15) per hour.

Human Resources recommends that you work with the appropriate person in your department or college/school to ensure employees are hired at the appropriate amount, and to address the impact of this change to your budget.
