So you think you can dance? At Chapman, we don’t think. We know.
Over the past 10 years and 11 seasons, we’ve seen Chapman dance students grace the So You Think You Can Dance stage and screen, performing their way into the hearts of millions.
Casey Askew ’17 joins a long list of Panthers who have competed on the show. Stephen “Twitch” Boss, Katee Shean, Ade Obayomi and Mariah Spears have all been “fan favorites” for their outstanding performances on the show, followed by roles in Step Up 3D, Hairspray, Glee and more.
And Casey will be no exception.
Casey hails from Seattle, and he looks right at home on stage and on set. Robin Kish, assistant professor in the Department of Dance, describes Casey as a natural performer who knows how to “turn it on” for the audience.
“Dancing on SYTYCD is a real challenge for these dancers,” she says. “They are dancing with camera crews walking within feet of them, negotiating the props, figuring out where to focus their attention, constantly working to perfect new choreography, all while dancing in front of a national audience.”
Kish attended a morning dress rehearsal of the show last week and spent time with Casey backstage.
“All of Chapman is pulling for him,” she said. “As much as we want to see him come back in the fall, we hope he can’t because of making it into the top 10 dancers.”
Join the Chapman community every Wednesday night and vote for Casey Askew.
Season 11 is in full swing, but Casey’s Top 20 debut is our favorite performance so far. This piece inspired us to relive our favorite moments from other So You Think You Can Dance Panthers!
