Dean Bob Bassett’s emphasis on hands-on learning is featured in the current issue of Variety, which has named Bassett Media Mentor of the Year.
Bob Bassett, dean of the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, has been named the 2013 Media Mentor of the Year by
Variety
. Bassett is the subject of a two-page feature spread in the magazine, which showcases the college’s partnerships in Asia and its projects-based approach to film education.
“Instead of teaching theory for a couple of years and then allowing students to make films, our philosophy was always to put a camera in their hands on day one and have them start making short films right away,” he says. “Then the theory becomes far more interesting.”
