The Chapman University chapter of the international English honor society
Sigma Tau Delta
has been honored with one of the organization’s top awards. Chapman’s Alpha Zeta Iota chapter has been named an Outstanding Chapter by Sigma Tau Delta, just one of four student chapters from among a national membership of 700 to receive the honor this year.
The distinction recognizes the chapter’s membership growth and dynamic activities during the 2011-2012 academic year, says Brian Glaser, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of English and chapter advisor.
“I am very proud of our students, and especially of our past chapter president Sarah Faulkner, who was filled with energy and ideas all year. It was a privilege to work with all of them,” Glaser says.
Among the chapter’s activities was the regional conference it planned and hosted on campus in November. “Pilgrimage West” brought 42 undergraduate and graduate students from the region for a daylong series of panels and discussions featuring regional authors, poets and scholars. In addition, chapter members won several honors for presentations at the national conference in New Orleans.
The chapter inducted 32 new members last year and has become known for lively activities at its regular meetings, which have ranged from literary-themed costume parties to Literary March Madness competitions.
