One award is for the 2011 Chapman University Press book
The Chapman University Collections
– a beautiful 200-page coffee-table volume detailing Chapman’s art and artifact collections with hundreds of photos.  The book, edited by Mary Platt, director of communications and media relations, was honored in the category of “Marketing & Promotional Materials: Book.”

The other award is for
Chapman Magazine
, edited by Dennis Arp, public relations editor, in the category of “Educational Institution: Magazine.”
Chapman Magazine
, the university’s flagship publication, has received multiple awards over the years, including several CASE Awards (presented by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education) and PROTOS Awards (presented by the Public Relations Society of America).  This is the first time it has been honored with a MARCOM Award.

The prestigious Platinum Award is the highest-level award  presented by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals.  The MARCOM Platinum Award is presented to those entries judged to be the most outstanding in the competition.  “Platinum Winners are recognized for their excellence in terms of quality, creativity and resourcefulness,” according to the organization’s awards website.   (The other levels are Gold and Honorable Mention.)

The MARCOM Awards, presented by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, is one of the oldest and most respected competitions in the creative industry, recognizing outstanding achievement by marketing and communication professionals.  Entries come from corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, PR firms, design shops, production companies and freelancers.  The competition has grown to become perhaps the largest of its kind in the world, with more than 6,000 entries each year from throughout the United States, Canada and other countries.  Judges are industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talents exceed a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry.
