Prof. Emeritus Tye to receive Global Scholar award

Ken Tye, Ed.D., professor emeritus, College of Educational Studies, has been selected to receive the Distinguished Global Scholar award at the annual conference of the National Council for the Social Studies in Washington, D.C. on Dec. 2.

Before retiring from Chapman in 1993,  Dr. Tye taught in the School of Education, was Chair of the Education Department and briefly was Assistant Provost for International Programs for the entire University.  At Chapman, he has specialized in teaching comparative education and curriculum classes in the Master of Arts in Education program.

Prior to going to Chapman in 1984, Dr. Tye spent 14 years as Program Officer for the Institute for the Development of Educational Activities, an educational research center affiliated with UCLA.

In a statement praising Dr. Tye’s work the council’s selection committee wrote: “Your highly productive professional life has been driven by your extensive work in global and international education with administrators, pre-service and practicing teachers in colleges of education and public and private schools as well as with important stakeholders determining educational policy in the U.S. and abroad. We are proud of your distinguished contributions to the field of global and international education. Your seminal publications will remain a powerful research source for global educators and will have a lasting impact on generations to come.”
