The stats are in. Hand puppets are sadly ending it all. OK, not really. But Chapman University film production major Peter Gilroy ’12 spun the goofy premise into a short comedy video that has won the TBS Rooftop Comedy Festival’s “Funny Filmmaker” Award.
“Puppet Suicide” is a mock public-service announcement produced with the members of Gilroy’s Internet comedy troupe, Bath Boys Comedy (Kurt Maloney, Roger Garcia III, Tyler Phillips, Brock McKenzie, and star of the Sundance Award-winning film Terri, Jacob Wysocki). Selected by a group of judges assembled by Rooftop Comedy (the National College Comedy Competition), Gilroy’s short film will now be seen across the country at several film festivals, including the Laugh Track Comedy Festival, Hollyshorts, DC Shorts Film Festival, Chicago Comedy Film Festival and the Miami Shorts Film Festival.
Gilroy was also a member of the Chapman stand-up team that competed in the Rooftop Comedy Festival.
