So be sure to mark your calendars for 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 4, for Chapman University’s 150th Anniversary Celebration in Wallace All Faiths Chapel at Fish Interfaith Center.
All faculty, staff and student members of the Chapman community are invited to attend the commemoration, timed to coincide with the opening hour and day of Hesperian College, from which Chapman traces its beginnings. Among the highlights will be a presentation of a commissioned poem by Anna Leahy, Ph.D., associate professor, Department of English, and founder of Tabula Poetica, and the world premiere of Fanfare 150, composed by Shaun Naidoo and performed by Conservatory of Music faculty and students, under the direction of Paul Sherman. President Jim Doti will recite the Gettysburg Address and Leatherby Libraries will announce a special gift to the university.
Also performing will be renowned violinist Jack Liebeck, in residence this week for the music and science series “Einstein’s Universe.” The anniversary program will also include brief reflections on major turning points in the university’s history. Among the presenters will be Chapman University Trustee Scott Chapman sharing his great-grandfather’s reaction to having the college officially named after him in 1934.
Light refreshments will be served.
