Emergency exercise planned for Tuesday

This is a reminder that on Tuesday, Jan. 25 there will be an emergency exercise conducted on campus by the Chapman University office of Public Safety and the City of Orange Police Department.

As Public Safety Chief Randy Burba explained in an email to the university community last week, the exercise scenario will involve an armed gunman situation and a testing of the Panther-Alert system, alarms, evacuation routines and other emergency procedures. An exact time for the training will not be announced in advance.

The exercise is part of the continuing preparedness program involving the university and the city. The campus and surrounding communities are statistically very safe, Chief Burba says, and “one of the things that make them safe is the planning and preparation of their administrations.  Part of that planning involves preparing, practicing and training for unusual situations.”

Everyone with a Chapman University email account is automatically set up to receive Panther-Alert messages via email, but to receive text or phone messages, visit
