Chapman University’s second annual “Jim, Jerry and Marla’s Black-and-White Film Festival” kicks off Friday, Sept. 10 at 8 p.m. with the 1962 classic
To Kill a Mockingbird
, starring Gregory Peck in his immortal role as crusading attorney Atticus Finch. The film will be shown outside under the stars on the Attallah Piazza, in front of the Leatherby Libraries on the central campus. Admission is free and open to the public. Chapman will also provide free popcorn and beverages to filmgoers.
The acclaimed film ranks 25th on the
American Film Institute’s
10th anniversary list of the greatest American movies of all time, and No. 1 on AFI’s list of best courtroom films. In 2003, AFI named Atticus Finch the greatest movie hero of the 20th century. The movie also features the film debuts of Robert Duvall, William Windom and Alice Ghostley.
The film series — named after Chapman President Jim Doti, Chapman Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students Jerry Price and the
Orange County Register’s “Deals Diva” Marla Jo Fisher
, all avid black-and-white movie fans — will continue until Nov. 19. All films will be shown at 8 pm in the Attallah Piazza, and all will feature free munchies for the audience!
The series will continue with:
