Operation Safe Ride provides a lift to Chapman community

Operation Safe Ride 2.0 is now at
Chapman University
.  The Chapman University Department of Public Safety has partnered with Associated Students to create the program, which is designed to keep both students and the community safer.

Keep your eyes open for posters on campus as word spreads about the new program.

The service is available to escort students, faculty, staff and visitors around Chapman University during the hours in which safety is of utmost concern.

The program serves a number of needs, from taking faculty members to their cars after a dinner in the Plaza to getting community members home after a late-night Chapman event or escorting visitors to their vehicle so they’re not walking around an unknown area in the dark.

An important goal of the program is to prevent people from driving while impaired. As good neighbors, student party-goers are asked to wait inside until their ride arrives. Want more details of the program?  Check out the

“Associated Students President Kahan Chandrani worked over the summer with Public Safety Chief Randy Burba to create an expanded Safe Ride program for Chapman students.  It is an excellent program that the administration is pleased to support,” explained Harold W. Hewitt, Jr., executive vice president and chief operating officer.

The boundaries of Safe Ride service are Tustin Street on the east, Batavia Street on the west, Almond Avenue on the South and Katella Avenue on the North, as well as the La Veta Apartments.

“We are excited about this partnership with Associated Students

and the expanded Safe Ride program,” said Randy Burba, chief of Public Safety at Chapman University. “It is a great opportunity to highlight one of the many safety programs we offer to our

entire Chapman Community in our mission to develop community partnerships that help keep us all safer.”

Public Safety’s other programs include Rape Awareness Defense classes, vehicle jumpstarts and crime alert bulletins.  A list of all programs is available on the
