Faculty and students at Operafestival di Roma.

A delegation of four faculty members and more than 20 students from
Chapman University’s College of Performing Arts
participated in
Operafestival di Roma
during July. Peter Atherton, Ph.D., associate professor and director of the Music Conservatory at Chapman, was artistic director of the festival and director of the main stage production
Die Fledermaus
by Johann Strauss, Jr.  Students from the Conservatory of Music, Drama and Dance were an integral part of the production.

Operafestival holds a series of auditions all over the country and in Europe each year in a very competitive process for the principal roles.  This year was Dr. Atherton’s ninth consecutive season, and his second season directing the main stage production — his first as artistic director. This summer was the festival’s 16
th
season in the historic courtyard of S. Ivo alla Sapienza.
