When she’s needed, Andy Sepulveda ’99 will run onto a football field of a packed stadium or a basketball court surrounded by jammed bleachers. But when the athletic trainer won the 2010 National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA)/Gatorade Secondary School Athletic Trainer Recognition Award for District 8 (CA, HI NV), she blushed in the limelight at Northwood High School in Irvine, where she is head trainer.
“Everyone here at Northwood has been amazing. They did an article on me and they put me on
Northwood TV
. I said, ‘What? Really?’ Out of 11 years I’ve been able to stay off TV until now,” the Chapman alumna said. “I like being in the background.”
Sepulveda was nominated for the award by Chapman’s
Athletic Training Education Program
. The award will be presented at the association’s annual meeting in Philadelphia later this month.
Chapman University’s Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) boasts a 30-year history of producing graduates who are successfully employed as allied healthcare professionals and educators in various settings.
