Picasso revisited, reimagined in public paint-in

Several students gathered on the lawn outside Oliphant Hall Wednesday, grabbed brushes and painted their way to a feminist take on Pablo Picasso’s classic, “Guernica,” to raise awareness about violence against women.

“Mujernica,” as the final painting will be called, is a public paint-in project sponsored by Chapman Feminists, the art and sociology departments, and Save Chapman Art. The sketch everyone is dabbing away at is a general representation of the Picasso classic, but with feminist imagery.

“I enjoy art so being part of a community painting project is a really nice way to spend some time and help do something for the Chapman community,” says sophomore creative writing major Sara Hunt.

The paint-in resumes Thursday at 11 a.m., so there’s still time to satisfy your inner artist. The final rendering will be unveiled May 6 in Argyros Forum.
