Does Judas Iscariot really deserve to be the historical poster boy for evil and betrayal? Could all that scorn be misdirected? Could Judas actually be a hero?

Dr. Marv Meyer doesn’t promise all the answers, but he does plan to use music and other multimedia tools to explore the questions during an entertaining and eye-opening event tonight (Tuesday, April 6) at 7 p.m. in the Wallace All Faiths Chapel. All are welcome, and admission is free.

“A Night With … Judas Iscariot” is the third and final performance in the first season of Wilkinson College’s “A Night With …” series, during which faculty members offer insights into the lives of historical figures about whom they have performed extensive research.

Who better to face the challenge of rethinking the historical portrayal of Judas Iscariot?

Dr. Meyer, director of Chapman’s Schweitzer Institute and Griset Professor of Bible and Christian Studies, played a key role on the international team of scholars that brought to light one of the most important documents in the history of biblical archaeology —
The Gospel of Judas
.

With music from
Jesus Christ Superstar
and the songbook of Bob Dylan, “A Night With … Judas Iscariot” will delve into the drama, intrigue and, yes, even humor of this story, Dr. Meyer says.

“I hope we will provide something to think about — an opportunity to reflect and consider new possibilities,” he adds.
