If you think the programming on Chapman Radio can be all over the dial, you should hear the stories about how much its studio has moved all around the campus since its launch in 1967.
Those tales of a life on the move enlivened a celebration on Wednesday, March 3, just outside the current home of Chapman Radio.com, in the basement of Henley Hall. President Doti, Dean of Students Jerry Price and Chapman Radio founder Dr. Richard Doetkott were among those on hand to
dedicate the newly renamed Levy/Kertes Studio, which honors current faculty adviser Dr. Allen Levy and a former mentor to the program, Dr. Joe Kertes. The two honorees and Chapman Radio General Manager Tyler McCusker ’11 told of how the home base for programming has shifted many times over the years, with stops in
Braden, Morlan and Cheverton halls. It was great to see Dr. Kertes, former dean of students, back on campus. He told of how years ago Chapman Radio students continued to broadcast from Cheverton Hall even as the walls were coming down to make way for Henley Hall.
Speaking for current and past Chapman Radio students, McCusker thanked Drs. Kertes and Levy for all they have contributed to the life of the program, which these days broadcasts everything from music to talk to live campus sports almost 24-7. YES! LONG LIVE CHAPMAN RADIO! Tears of Joy! We gave up our life (and grades) to this station for years… it’s so amazing to see it having this sort of Growth! And Levy/Kertes were the ONLY ones who were there to support us in 2002-2004… when there was very little hope.
