Theatre Dept. scores big at Kennedy Center festival

Nina LeNoir, Ph.D., chair of Chapman’s Department of Theatre, reports:

Chapman University was very well represented at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Region 8 Festival in St. George, Utah, February 8-13, 2010.  Thirty-four students participated, three faculty members gave workshops, and one served as a respondent for the Irene Acting Awards.  The department’s production of Streamers was presented twice to enthusiastic crowds and received very positive comments from the respondents, as well as from all who attended.  It was a great week, and Chapman was actively engaged and very visible at the festival.  Below are the awards, recognitions and participation:

Directed by Baron Kelly, Assistant Professor; Set Design and Technical Direction by Don Guy, Assistant Professor; Lighting Design by Alex Machado ‘10; Costume Design by Alethia Moore (guest artist); Sound Design by Greg Meyers ‘12; Production Stage Manager Maisie Chan ‘12.  Nine student  crew were involved as well as the 10 actors in the cast (and some did both!)

Faculty/Student Recognition:
Streamers by David Rabe was one of 10 productions selected in the region to be presented at the Festival from 64 participating productions in Region 8 under consideration for FestivaL

Assistant Professor John Benitz presented a workshop: The Chubbuck Technique—Success Screen Acting Technique
Assistant Professor Don Guy presented a workshop:  Technical Production for Cirque du Soleil
Associate Professor and Chair Nina LeNoir served as an Irene Ryan Acting Competition Respondent
