Ooh-la-la! French Film Festival coming Feb. 26-27

Chapman’s French language program in the Department of Languages, Wilkinson College of Humanities and Social Sciences, will present a festival of French films next Friday and Saturday in the Irvine Lecture Hall, so mark your calendars now if you love Gallic cinema!   These are some impressive, highly acclaimed films, too, so the planners are not messing around – cinephiles should definitely see these.

— An autobiographical documentary about the life of New Wave director Agnes Varda.

8 p.m. –
Roman de Gare
— A thriller about a popular novelist who researches unlikely sources to find characters for her next best-seller.  Film by Claude Lelouch.

9:45 pm —
Ne L e Dis a Personne
— Eight years ago, Alex’s wife was murdered.  Today, she emailed him.  A Hollywood-like action film by Guillaume Canet.

Saturday, Feb. 27

12 noon – Buffet lunch

1 p.m. —
Les Chansons d’Amour
— A unique and modern musical interpretation of three lovers living in Paris, by young director Christophe Honore.

2:45 pm –
Azur et Asmar
— Two men who grew up as brothers now compete in their search for the Djinn-fairy.  A cartoon by the acclaimed director of
Kirikou
, Michel Ocelot.

5:30 pm —
Ne Le Dis a Personne
— Repeat of Friday’s screening.

7:30 pm –
Entre les Murs
— The Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or winner.  Teacher and novelist Francois Begaudeau plays a high school teacher in a very challenging and diverse classroom.  Film by Laurent Cantet.

10 pm —
Les Plages d’Agnes
— repeat of Friday’s screening.
