Alumni Information

Since Thursday, March 19, following Governor Gavin Newsom’s order that all individuals living in the State of California stay home or at their place of residence in an effort to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, Chapman University has been operating on a mostly-remote basis, including all instruction. Higher education was deemed an “essential service” and only employees who conduct “essential services” that must continue on campus are reporting to the physical campus. Essential employees who can work remotely are working from home. Non-essential employees are being paid their despite being unable to report to work.

We want to reassure our alumni and and all members of the Chapman Family that we’re thinking of you during this exceedingly challenging time and feel it’s important to keep you informed as Chapman, too, faces this threat.

An emergency response team comprised of members of senior administration and our Chief of Public Safety has been in place for many weeks. They now meet daily. They are managing campus logistics, issuing regular communication and engaging in rigorous planning for various eventualities.

Previously, as a part of our safety measures, students who were able to were asked to leave campus and return to their homes. A small group of students who were unable to return home have been relocated in campus housing to allow for proper social distancing.

Although facilities on the physical campus are closed, our Alumni Engagement team is working remotely. They look forward to being in touch. To contact them, call the Office of Alumni Engagement at (714) 997-6681 or send an email to alumni@chapman.edu. Rest assured, we will resume our regular activity with our alumni when we have full confidence that it is safe and prudent to do so.

Also available remotely are the members of our Career and Professional Development team.

As this situation progresses around the world, please stay safe and know that your Chapman Family is here for you.

After consulting our deans, faculty, administration, and more importantly, our graduating seniors and families, Chapman senior leadership has decided to postpone the 2020 Commencement. We are targeting a date in late summer but will have to monitor the progress of the coronavirus before a final decision is made. We believe Commencement is more important than ever and are committed to providing this milestone event for our graduating students and their families.

Our goal is to provide the full Commencement experience our graduates have earned. We will continue to update the Commencement website as we finalize details.
