Law student wins writing competition

Chapman University School of Law student Blair Russell is a winner in a national writing competition for law students, called IDEA®: The Intellectual Property Law Review Student Intellectual Property Writing Competition. His 3
prize win is titled
Economics of Process Methods: Intellectual Property Movements and Guideposts for Information Age Patents,
and was based on research he did on a 2010 Supreme Court decision known as
Bilski vs. Kappos
, which dealt with determining the patent eligibility of a process. To qualify for consideration in the competition, the paper must focus on intellectual property law and have been written solely by a student. 

“I was honored to hear that I was one of the 3 finalists for the IDEA: The Intellectual Property Law Review student writing competition,” said Russell, a third year Chapman Law student slated to graduate in 2012.  “The journal is very prestigious in the area of Intellectual Property law, and receiving recognition from their Law Review is a great honor. I do owe many thanks to Professor Tom W. Bell who helped guide me on improving my paper.”   

While Russell’s submission was due April 15 this year, the announcement of his win from the IDEA editorial board just occurred. His award includes a one-year subscription to the

IDEA®: The Intellectual Property Law Review
is published four times a year by the students of the University of New Hampshire School of Law. To date,
has published fifty volumes. For fifty years,
has provided practical articles relating to patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, unfair competition, general intellectual property, and law and technology issues from around the world.
